Five Positions Open
The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra has opened applications for its Orchestral Academy program across five instruments: violin, oboe, tuba, double bass, and timpani/percussion. The two-year program runs from August 2026 through July 2028.
Led by Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov, the Czech Philharmonic is one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious orchestras, performing at the historic Rudolfinum in Prague.
What the Academy Offers
Academy members train alongside the full orchestra over a two-year residency. This is a substantial commitment that provides professional orchestral experience at the highest level — the kind of training that bridges the gap between conservatory and full-time orchestral employment.

Why Academy Positions Matter
Orchestral academies have become an increasingly important stepping stone for young musicians. They offer what conservatory training alone cannot: daily immersion in professional orchestral life, exposure to a wide range of repertoire under major conductors, and the network connections that often lead to permanent positions.
For musicians in the 18–26 age range, these programs are among the most valuable career investments available. The Czech Philharmonic's academy, given the orchestra's stature, is particularly competitive.
