The Queen Sonja Singing Competition offers young opera singers an international career springboard, with valuable prizes, an influential international jury and a final concert with the world-class Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
The 2027 competition begins with digital preliminary rounds on 23–24 June. Singers will record their preliminary entry from their location, with a professional guiding them.
The semi-finals take place in Oslo on 28–29 August, followed by the final at Oslo Concert Hall on 3 September. All singers invited to Oslo get the chance to participate in high-level masterclasses, career development sessions and opportunities to meet international opera professionals.
Applications are open from 1 February to 1 April 2027. Singers born in 1995 or later are eligible, subject to the competition regulations.
Applicants must submit two contrasting opera arias on video, with a combined duration of no more than 10 minutes.
Each aria must be recorded in a single take, using one camera angle and live piano accompaniment. Recordings must be no more than 12 months old. A repertoire list of 10 works, a passport copy, an updated CV and a digital photograph are also required.
The application fee is €95. Invited participants pay an additional €200 confirmation fee, of which €100 is refunded as specified in the regulations.
